Welcome

Moon Stories is an online portal sharing stories and creative responses from the public about the first moon landing, particularly from the perspective of those living in and around the ACT.

In July 1969 the Apollo 11 mission landed the first human beings on the moon. The very first television images of Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon were broadcast to the world via the Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station just outside of Canberra.

Fifty years later, the magnitude of that event and its transmission to a global public continues to be felt. To mark the 50th anniversary of this occasion a group of artists exhibited artwork in Promised the Moon, at the ANU School of Art & Design Gallery during 20 June – 26 July 2019.

Read the Moon Stories submitted to this website during the lead up to the anniversary.
